Thank you from Veronica
Veronica wants to thank everyone for their generosity and was very overwhelmed with the voucher for Doby's garden centre and the card with everyone's goodbye wishes. She is still not sure what she will buy for the garden but will treasure it as a constant reminder of the wonderful 30 years she spent in the club. She misses the children and everyone in the club very much and hopes they are all keeping safe and well. She wishes the club all the very best and hopes to see everyone again soon whether it's around the town or down at the Leisure Centre 😁. As a club we all miss Veronica but appreciate the amazing legacy she left behind - thank you Veronica!!

End of year BBQ and fond farewells!
The BBQ this year was very much one of mixed emotions! It was great to celebrate a tough year when the club successfully overcame many obstacles with Covid and many of our members were able to spend considerable time in the pool. Thank you to all who made this happen. However, the end of the year also sadly saw three legends from the club depart. Farewell to Angi, Alwyn and Veronica - what you have done and contributed to the club is almost beyond words but Eamon our Head Coach did a great job of expressing everyone's gratitude. Please see his exquisite and beautiful speech below:
Welcome to our BBQ and Presentation evening and thank you all for coming. It's good to see you swimmers, parents and friends coming together in one place. At least the weather has been kind to us this year. We are still here, I mean our swimming club is still here up and running. We have been through a tough few years with the prolonged renovations at Dungannon Leisure Centre and the Covid lock-downs. I remember the travelling to Armagh, Cookstown and Portadown Leisure centres. The dark evenings and winter months, but as a club we kept going. This was down to all of us pulling together, the swimmers turning up for training and the parents for bringing them to & from the pools. Again thanks to the coaches & committee members for organising the sessions and those parents who did poolside supervision.
As with every swimming club there are those that go above and beyond the call of duty. I am speaking about Angi, Alwyn & Veronica. We could not let this moment pass without acknowledging the contribution given by these 3 members of our club who are leaving us. We are known as the friendly club, open to all, and its down to members like them that we have a club such as ours. When someone leaves our club it could be for work reasons, their children have moved on to college or work or they may have found a new interest but their years of service are there. These 3 have given their time, their energy, their good advice, their organising skills, and of course their friendship beyond that of just being there while their children were in the club.
For Angi & Alwyn here this evening we are marking their leaving with a presentation for all they have done for our club. Angi, our ex-chairperson, organiser extraordinaire, a communication hub with club members, with Swim Ulster & Swim Ireland, attention to detail person, who had the best professional approach when dealing with issues & people and also had a wonderful calm and caring manner. Personally, she has been a God send helping me with all the I.T. and red tape that takes over everything! In fact I thought she took on too many roles that are now shared out among many!
Alwyn, our ex-senior coach who took up the baton of coaching our senior swimmers. It is not easy to put yourself forward into a new environment with the responsibility of coaching experienced swimmers. Thanks Alwyn! (Perhaps you will stay on to help out when needed as level 2 are short on the ground!!)
Both their presences has added to our club and has kept the club on a solid foundation. Personally they have given me sound advice in my role as coach.
Veronica cannot be here this evening, but I feel I must say a few words on her behalf. Where do I start? Veronica the coach, the committee member, the teams organiser, the many weekend trips organiser at the share centre or Killowen, the long long time member. Is it 15, 20, 25, over 30 years?? I have lost track of the number of years of service in our club! She's the one you ask for help, advice, the approachable one, the friend over the years, the no nonsense get things done person. The swimmers loved her! Veronica is the one who has taken the flack. Who stood up for the club and swimmers at galas. She kept order on the bus journeys and on the pool bank. She had the pressure of organising teams, of stressing when swimmers didn't turn up for galas, of phoning around to reorganise teams, of trying to give every swimmer a swim. The flack she took from other clubs and club members! She stood her ground every time. Stood strong for what she believed in. A hard act to follow.
I will miss her. I will miss all 3 of you.
I say thank you Angi, thank you Alwyn, thank you Veronica.
On behalf of Dungannon Swimming Club and myself thank you so very very much!
Summer closure dates
There will be no Friday swimming in July but Tuesday and Thursday sessions will continue to the 22nd July.
